Solitude

“The monotony and solitude of quiet life stimulates the creative mind”

Albert Einstein

Living in a society where we are constantly on the go leaves little time for reflection. What makes this even worse is that we are often spending time with a variety of people from all walks of life; except one, ourselves.

What is solitude and how can it help me?

Solitude is known as the state or situation of being alone. People deem this to be a scary prospect, and in all honesty they are right. To retreat into isolation and spend some time alone, without any distractions, can bring all sorts of emotions and feelings to the fore. Individuals seldom manage to hold their own (initially) in this aspect of life.

However, solitude is not a life long thing and it doesn’t have to be either. Periodquote-the-happiest-of-all-lives-is-a-busy-solitude-voltaire-41-36-58s of silence + non distraction are essential to peace of mind. The famous quote ‘Know Thyself’ attributes its success to solitude.

Spending time alone will mean you are actively taking time to face yourself in all your unseen nakedness. It means you will be confronting your inner demons (and angels!), it means you will become more calm, it will allow you to slowwww down. Many people have found their true purpose in life through solitude. Thinreader_by_ka_92-d4qvxtr.jpgk about it this way, would you rather live a life constantly busy with endless things to do but at the end of still feel a void? Or you would rather spend a life alone, with no one but yourself meaning you can know who you truly are? The answer… neither! You should aim for both, maintain your life as it is whilst introducing periods of solitude (daily), and you will begin to reap the full rewards.

How to practice solitude

  • Meditation
  • Visualisation
  • Reading books
  • Thinking – with a pen and paper nearby.
  • Nature walks
  • Laying down before Sleep
  • Observation

No one is saying you need to go from the busy club to the park bench and remain there. But what I am saying is that solitude is essential to knowledge of thyself. Aim to dive deep into the unknown, it will be hard, but it will certainly help.

Stay busily alone, Brown Boy.

How to achieve your goals when you are constantly busy

We are often caught up in a World with so much to do. Endless mundane tasks after the standard working hours (9-5) mean we very rarely get a chance to look into what we love. Even more so, when time presents itself, we are wasteful, and prefer a night in front of the TV or on social media. Now although these activities are not necessarily bad, they are no doubt dangerous.

The misuse of free-time

The average Man or Woman works for 8 hours and usually tends to sleep for 2 hours. Add on 2 hours for miscellaneous tasks (like getting ready etc.) and the average individual has 6 hours free time to do as they wish.

Many of us unconsciously spending this time doing things which are of no benefit to our deeper inherent goals. We watch the latest TV show, we go on our phones, we comfort eat… we do anything but be productive.

Accumulate years worth of this and soon you are 60 years old, in the same job, your body falling apart, miserable.

Use your time wisely

Now we have established the average person has 6 hours free time, its now time to start utilizing this time; often the first (and most difficult) step is defining what you want and who you are.

If we have dreams and are still willing to work on them, it is crucial we use these 6 hours in the most productive way possible.

Read books on your specialty, practice techniques, study, learn and most importantly TAKE ACTION! (Read more about this – Service

Many of us complain about the circumstances of our lives; we work long hours, we’re tired, we simply don’t have enough… time.

This my friends is an illusion, we have an abundance of time. We must use it wisely. Circumstances do not define us, we must define them.

Tips to use your time wisely

  • Set apart 1 hour a day devoted to exercising your mind. Think of ideas on your goal. It is like digging in a rich deep well of gold.
  • Meditate – Meditate for at least 15 minutes a day. It will help you focus and slow down. Most importantly, it will allow you to realize what matters most.
  • Collate a schedule – Your out of hours time can easily slip away, prevent this by setting a schedule of how you will you use your time.
  • Read a book on your specialty – Emerson once said when you read a book you find yourself. Read a book which will help towards your goal and help you stay motivated.

Finally there is one more thing I would like to mention and that is discipline. Follow through on goals you have set, and have the discipline to take the required action each and every day. Before you know it, your goals will be much closer to you than you have ever imagined.

Use your time well, peace and love BrownBoy x

The Beauty Of Giving

“The Heart That Gives, Gathers”

Lao Tzu

Every Man for Himself? Dog eat Dog? Me against the World? Maybe that is the case, but you are missing out. You do not have to see the World like that. It’s amazing that as soon as you start giving regularly, you get, and also are happy. What an amazing World we live in!

What I mean by Giving

Giving is something we are all hardwired as humans to do, however, amongst the evolution of society this clear water like practice has got slightly murky.

There are many of us who give to charity (or any other cause) and then boast about it. We tell other people, we feel a sense of pride, we do it simply so others will think highly of us. This is dangerous.

The problem with this initial approach is that we not giving from the right place. We do not care about helping others, we are simply doing this for our own benefit. This leads to unhappiness and fulfilment. So please if you do give, do it from the right place.

So what is the ‘Right’ place?

Giving from the heart. When you give (money, your love, your self etc.) from the right place with genuine love to that other person or cause, you begin to reap the rewards. Simply giving from this place means you are not even wanting / expecting anything in return, and all you want is to help that other person. Giving can be in monetary terms, giving your love, your heart, your work – it can be defined in numerous ways. The beauty of giving in this way means you get back equal (or more) amounts of reward, and it brings us one amazing emotion, happiness.

How to give

There are many ways to give here are a few ideas…

  • Volunteer at a food bank – Food banks are notorious for allowing people to volunteer and help. Go down to your local food bank and offer to help on one of the many nights they have available during the week, you’ll be amazed how rewarding this is. 12981-donate-give-charity-food-box.1200w.tn
  • Give Money to a charity you have studied – Giving money to a chairty you know well about is a great way to give your gift. It is very easy to do this in the current age and can even be done online.
  • Listen – I believe this is the most powerful form of giving. When you listen to somebody deeply you are giving your presence. Listen to them, look them in the eyes, and feel the way they are feeling. Be someone who others can come to for comfort, why not help the world, one step at a time.

Increase your service – Increase your reward (Money!)

Ask yourself every morning – How Can I Increase My Service Today? – Earl Nightingale

Often throughout life we are faced with the age-old question of how to increase our income, which can then contribute to a better quality of life.

This leads to us down various different avenues; from selling unused items, to getting a pay rise and even looking for a new line of work! But one thing prevalent in these and many other methods is that of increasing your service. The more you can create a demand for a product or service, the more people will be a customer of yours; and if you have more customers you will have more income – they are one and the same.

In life there are two kinds of people

1.) Thise individuals who cut down their needs and wants to match their income

2.) Those individuals who make their incomes match their needs + wants

The second option is by far the most beneficial for us a species and you will find the top 5% Of people on the planet in this bracket.

I want you to break out of these old conditioned methods of believing money is dark and the root of all evil. People sometimes say to me that money doesn’t bring happiness. Money has brought a lot more happiness than has poverty – there is no virtue or honour in poverty. Simply put money is a means to an end, but do not let money take the place of anything else. It is there to help and live our life, that is it.

I want you, the reader, the unique human being (or robot) to take advantage of this great universal law and get the income you want and deserve. Here are some tips for increasing your service:

  • Carry a notepad and pen around with you st all times and have the idea in your mind – how can I increase my service today? We are habitual creatures and tend to forget very easily. Therefore it is imperative that you write it down – remember, one idea can change your life.
  • In your current line of work, look for new and exciting way of increasing your service. Always think of ways how you can above what you are being paid for, become an invaluable asset for your company.
  • Relax! Once you are looking for ways to increase your service and have began implementing them what is crucial is that you need to relax, you have nothing to worry about. Know that there are certain universal laws and if adhered to can and WILL bring success to you, it has to be, it is only a matter of time.

I hope this article truly helps you. Let’s get rid of the old adage of not working hard because we are not paid enough. Increase your service by doing more than what you are paid for and eventually the two will add up, they have to, it is how the universe works.

How to handle Awkward conversations

“He who asks the questions CONTROLS the conversation”

UNKNOWN

Awkward conversations can be frightening and uncomfortable. They may put you off speaking to people because you are not being authentic. Here are some of my tips on how to handle awkward conversations (and in some cases make them un-awakward!)

Become genuinely interested in the other person

This is my first and probably most important tip. When talking to somebody it is imperative we ask questions to find out more about them. The key to making this authentic and from a good place is to actually be interested in what they have to say. Listen intently, feel and picture their words. When you are genuinely interested in something it allows the other person to open up; they can sense your genuine energy whilst you are all the more intrigued. Have you ever noticed when interested in something you will ask many questions about it?

Slow down and Pauseeeee!

Whist holding conversations much of time we are so focused on what we are getting out of it, which is fine. However, this then makes us very un-grounded, and forcing lots of questions on the other person like an interrogator. Learn to pause, take a deep breath, take in what the other person has just said. Now whilst pauses may feel ever so awkward because you are eager to keep the conversation going, they are all be it a very powerful tool if used in a genuine matter. What I mean by this is; listen to the individual, and if you don’t have anything to say once they have finished the piece, then reply with the following: “Hmmm, interesting, whilst rubbing your lower face slightly”. Try it in your next conversation, it works many wonders… but be authentic!

Realise success comes in the amount of uncomfortable conversations you are willing to have

People often wonder what the death of success actually is. I have the answer. The reason people don’t succeed is because they are afraid to get out of their comfort zone. Becoming comfortable with being uncomfortable is key for success, and this is also the case with having conversations with people. If you like a girl, go up there speak to her, be willing to screw it all up; because guess what? Once you have done it you will realise it is not so scary after all. You will learn new things and be able to handle conversations much easier in future. Do not being fearful of awkward conversations – in fact this may sound cliche, but, strive to make at least some of your conversations… awkward.

BE YOURSELF

Now I am contradicting myself here, because at the top I opened with the most important tip. Well make the top tip, the now second most important tip; being yourself is by far the best thing you can do. When holding a conversation with someone BE YOURSELF. Do not try and emulate somebody and this just makes it inauthentic. What I mean by being yourself is to express how you are feeling at any given moment. Say what you genuinely want to say even if it will be ridiculed. Be true to yourself, do not lie, and trust your inner guidance. To be ourselves we must find ourselves, but one sure way of finding thyself, is to act from within as much as possible.

Peaccce

I hope you enjoyed these tips, have a great day, and remember, slow down, relax and be real!

Peace and Love, BrownBoyBB.

The Attitude of Gratitude

“Gratitude in advance is the most powerful creative force in the universe”

Neale Donald Walsh

Look around you, look very close, you will begin to see that in today’s society many people are not grateful for what they have, as a matter of fact they behave in a totally opposite way. We live in a society where many people are complaining about their life and circumstances. A way out of this, offered by the elite is to keep attempting to make one self better, through the possession of materialistic items, however, this does not satisfy us. It actually makes us want more and thereby not appreciate what we currently have. We live in a World where a lot of us (me included) are never truly grateful for the miracle of life, and for the fact we are alive… right here, right now.

life is great

Why / How is Gratitude so powerful?!

Employing gratitude is an EXTREMELY powerful process. When you stop, reflect on life and be truly grateful for what you have your life will begin to change. You will genuinely be happy. Gone will be the days of claiming to be a happy once a future goal is reached, you can choose to be happy NOW.

Gratitude is the key to happiness. Daily practice of gratitude can ironically allow you to reach your goals faster. Ever heard the saying ‘fake it till you make it’? Well this is similar to gratitude, be happy now, be grateful now, feel how you would in your ideal life now, and guess what? One of the most important steps towards your goal is achieved. Be grateful for the flowers outside, your family helping you out, a stranger giving you way in traffic, and even for the food on your plate. Some of the most happiest people are those with nothing at all to their name. They have nothing, yet somehow, have everything.

How to practice gratitude

Practising gratitude is a very simple process and need not be complicated, however, there are many different ways to practice gratitude. Here are some of my favourites.

  • Gratitude Journal – Every day, find three new things to be grateful about and write them down in as much detail as possible. Whenever feeling ungrateful, simply refer back to your gratitude journal.

    elements
    Here are some examples
  • Speak gratitude into existence – As you go about your day, attempt to notice as many things to be grateful for as possible. When you see something, marvel at it, do not judge it, simply be grateful for its beauty, and say it out loud.

    images
    How beautiful
  • Give more thanks – Saying thank you is one, if not the most powerful form of gratitude you can employ. Say thank you for everything. For your life, for the postman delivering you valuable letters, your mother for her home-cooked foods. Say thank you more, and you will receive more.

I am

Lastly, attempt to always see life with the attitude of gratitude. Be genuinely grateful, and you will be happy, I guarantee it.

How To Continually Grow Stronger In A Negative World

In a ever-changing World with much terror, it is essential not to be affected and to continue growing stronger; here are my three tips to grow stronger whilst also shutting out the negativity of the environment surrounding you.

  1. Don’t Watch The News – Have you ever noticed the introduction to the daily news bulletin? DUN DUN DUN! The news channels these days are very negative, spending time taking in the energy the news offers hinders you a progress to  great degree. Shut off the news, and see how it impacts your life, I guarantee you will be automatically happier than 90% of people – whilst also allowing you precious time to grow STRONGER.fox news.jpg
  2. Realise There Is No Good Without Bad – There are certain laws in the universe which show up in life (no matter how distorted this planet is). Yin Yang. With every good thing, comes a perceived bad thing and vice versa. Simply put, there is no good without bad, this is duality. We mustn’t allow ourselves to be swayed by the negativity and all the bad things happening in the world because guess what? We are forgetting the great things which are also happening.yin yang.jpg
  3. Bad Acts Have Been Occurring Since The Beginning Of Time – Many of us get so emotionally involved in whats happening in the World and we believe that day by day the world is getting worse. I myself am a behead.jpgvictim of this mentality. Yesterday, whilst at work, I (foolishly) tuned into the news as there was much commotion in the kitchen area of my workplace. On the TV I saw the attacks which had just happened at Westminster (R.I.P to all those killed) and I engaged in a conversation with a colleague. I stated that “the world is getting worse”. I realised the drama of what had just happened in Westminster and the way the news was broadcasting it, made me react in a certain way. However, I then remember something important.Acts like this have been happening since the beginning of time, this is nothing new, and although it is upsetting that these acts occur, we cannot allow them to influence our behaviour as this makes it all worse.

Finally, I would like to say that we should use all of our energy and put it into worthwhile matters (like growing stronger). Focus all your energy on that, grow stronger, help people, and be the change you want to see in the world. Peace and Love.

The real reason why I train (and why you should too!)

The pain of training, spewing your guts all over the floor, or the pleasure of training doing what you find fun… which one to do? More importantly, which one resonates with you?

Pain

Pain comes part and parcel with training there is no escaping it, however, what defines pain?

The training style I love to partake in is bodybuilding, and have been training for around 8 months. There are many different ways to train, but I prefer a mix of controlled, heavy to start and then finishing the workout with high-rep (burnout) pumps. The thing is it hurts, but there is something about the pain that I love (call me crazy). Now if i was to go crazy and force myself to do things I did not want to do (like 10 sets of hack squats!) then that would be pain I do not like, and guess what? It won’t grant me results. Forcing yourself do something you really hate will eventually have its toll. This means it is important you define really what kind of pain you are willing to endure.

hqdefault.jpg
If you give up at the first hurdle of pain, you have lost out on lots of upcoming pleasure

Pleasure

Often after reaching the end of a good, hard training session, comes those endorphin’s, that amazing feeling of pleasure.

Have you ever realised that after giving it your all and leaving everything out there (under that Barbell) that you will come out of the gym with one of the best high’s ever known to man?

They say with pain comes pleasure, and this is certainly the case with bodybuilding. You put in the work, you endure pain, you see results, and this motivates you to keep going, thereby facing the pain yet again. Like i said, with pain comes pleasure, intense pleasure.

Pleasure.jpg
Arnold Schwarzenegger sums it up perfectly

So.. how should YOU train?

Now we arrive at the most important part of the article, how should I as an individual train?

Well firstly it depends on what you are training for, an athlete training for a marathon will be training much differently to that of a sprinter. However, what ever form of training you do, you MUST find a way to enjoy it. The most successful athletes in life are those who do what they love and therefore work extremely hard towards that particular endeavour. what they love, because they work extremely hard towards that particular endeavour.

So remember guys, train hard and enjoy the pain by doing what you love!

How to pick yourself up after failure

Failing is never final until you accept it as a reality. Do not allow the failure of something to define you and stay permanent…

Failure is a part of life

Life is full of many obstacles and many a time these obstacles require repeated attempts to overcome. Without failure, life would simply be, a failure. Failing or failure allows us to grow as individuals and learn from our mistakes. Going forward in the future it helps us attack that same facet in a more intelligent way, yielding success. If we were to go through life without failing at anything then guess what? We would never achieve ANYTHING.

faiilure.jpg

So, how do I deal with failure…?

There are many ways to deal with failure, but first and foremost is to not allow failure to stop you in your tracks. Never let failure make you quit at something (for good) otherwise it will be come permanent.

Here are some tips to deal with failure on an emotional and physical level

  • Learn from your mistakes – The definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again expecting a successful outcome. Failing at something allows us to determine what we did wrong and what can be improved for next time. Observe how you handed a certain failed situation and look at what you could do differently next time. Over time this persistent assessment will bring success and teach you many things about life, and yourself
  • Pick yourself straight back up – The best thing you can do after failing at something is to get back up and try, try again. Its important not to dwell on something which has gone wrong (although brief periods of reflection are essential) as it can lead to depression (which I will talk about it another article). Dust yourself off, get up, and NEVER GIVE UP!
  •  Realise it is building your character and passion – When you fail at something, it can either make you more hungry to achieve it in the future, or demoralised; both are great character building traits. Firstly with regards to your passion; failure can make you more hungry and help you realise your true passion. The repeated failures may allow you to build a solid will, and in the process realise your true heartfelt passion. And then being demoralised. Sure it can hurt, and you may quit. But those dark moments are when all the work is done, those moments are the times no one see’s, they can just speculate whilst you at standing these, with your hand raised, successful.
